Who Am I?
Hi there! I’m LaShae, a former kindergarten teacher turned stay-at-home mom who has a rambunctious toddler boy and another on the way!
How I got here
As a teacher, I know the importance of rituals and routines and establishing these as soon as possible in the school year. I always had my mornings planned out to a T, and they were predictable for my students.
But when I became a mom, I noticed that my mornings were frazzled, and often the day seemed to get away from me before I had even started! I struggled with my to-do lists, chores seemed like mountains, and getting started was impossible. I realized then that my son and I needed some morning routines.
Now I’ve found what works for me, and I put into practice some simple morning routines that have helped me manage my day. I get more done and have more time with my son.
My Best 7 Tips
“Okay, now with that out of the way, I’m super excited to share the top 7 secrets I discovered on
my OWN path to becoming more productive every day. Let’s start with #1
Secret #1: Wake Up Early
This is such a simple way to start your day that’s sure to fire up your productivity. Now I’m not saying you have to wake up at 3AM or anything. Just consider your bedtime, then plan on getting however many hours of sleep you need. Next, set your alarm for 10 minutes earlier than you normally wake up. Then after a few days, as your body adjusts, set it back another 10 minutes. Do this until you’ve reached your wake up goal!
Secret #2: Get Dressed
No matter when you decide to shower, once you wake up go ahead and get dressed for the day. It’s a way to tell yourself that you have important things to do today. To save some time in the morning, go ahead and plan your entire outfit the night before. And this doesn’t have to be your best clothes. Simply changing from pajamas to a casual outfit will help tell your brain that you are ready to tackle the day.
Secret #3: Have Quiet Time
Take a few moments to have some alone time. Use this time to pray and talk to God or to read the Bible. Read a daily devotional or jot down some things you are grateful for in a Gratitude Journal. Plan out your day in a planner, and make a to-do list for the day. There’s many ways you can spend this time, but it’s important that you are taking the time for yourself and to gather your thoughts for the day. You’ll be more productive if you’ve made a plan for the day. Remember, you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else, so use this time to prep yourself spiritually and naturally for the day!
Secret #4: Don’t Pick Up Your Phone
Don’t pick up your phone unless you’re using it for your alarm. Grabbing your phone before getting out of bed can kill your productivity for the day. You could waste all of the extra time you’ve set aside for yourself by waking up early by checking your emails and social media accounts. Those things are meant to pull you in, and so it’s better to just stay off of your phone completely.
Secret #5: Eat a Healthy Breakfast
This doesn’t have to be an elaborate meal, nor does it have to be eaten alone. I know many moms make eat breakfast with their children. The goal here is to just eat a nutritional breakfast! Start the day with a smoothie before the kids wake up, or make smoothie bowls for everyone. It really doesn’t matter when you eat it, just make sure you do!
Secret #6: Prep the Night Before
Use the evening to create your to-do list or goals and to prioritize your engagements for the next day. Set out a water bottle by your bed for the morning, plan your outfit, or even take a shower. Prepping the night before can give you extra time in the morning for other things. It also allows you to have peace of mind the next morning knowing you’re already ahead of the day.
Secret #7: Do the Hardest Thing First
Oddly enough, this is one of my favorites! I’ve found that doing the hardest or worst thing you have to do all day first thing in the morning help productivity the rest of the day! For me, it’s washing dishes or putting away laundry. For you it could be running errands, cleaning up the toys, or even meal prepping for the week. Whatever is your least favorite thing to do, do it first and watch the rest of your day fall into place.
